Under the bill, it will be illegal to try to change somebody's sexuality or gender identity, known as "conversion therapy".
There is still some way to go as there are still seven MPs - all National Party - opposing it. However, great progress has been made as at its first reading, the entire National Party opposed it! Aotearoa is also ahead of other countries, such as the UK, and many states in the US, where conversion therapy is still legal.
